About the role - you will:
We are seeking a highly accomplished photonics technologist to lead discovery, design, and prototyping of photonics-enabled solutions for data storage and adjacent applications. You will set technical direction, build credible prototypes, drive cross-functional adoption, and mature concepts from TRL pathfinding to productizable architectures.
- Identify, frame, and prioritize photonics opportunities across data storage and adjacent applications.
- Lead the design of integrated photonic and plasmonic components.
- Develop proof-of-concepts for novel photonic devices.
- Guide internal researchers and external partners; publish results, file patents, and represent Seagate in technical forums.
- Mentor engineers, set best practices, and uphold a culture of scientific rigor and fast learning.
About you:
- Systems thinker with deep hands-on expertise; comfortable moving between fundamental physics.
- Device-level detail, and system constraints.
- Highly collaborative, able to communicate complex topics clearly to diverse audiences and influence cross-functional decisions.
- Driven by curiosity, data, and measurable impact; thrives in fast-paced, multi-project environments.
Your experience includes:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 15+ years of experience.** A post- graduate degree Engineering is preferred or equivalent education and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in integrated photonics, plasmonics/near-field optics, laser sources.
- Proven track record of prototype development and experimental characterization.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills; excellent verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated leadership in multi-disciplinary programs, external partnerships, and IP strategy.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $185,182.40 - $274,994.72. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
