About Our GroupThe Materials Science Lab at Longmont is a leader in materials and chemicals analysis and serves as the hub for materials science related challenges for the Drive Design Center. The lab team works closely with several cross-functional partners including Product Design Engineering, Head and Media Factories, Supplier Quality Engineering and the Seagate worldwide materials science community to understand complicated materials issues, provide in-depth analyses and develop unique analytical solutions for lab instrumentation. The lab hosts a state-of-the-art ToF-SIMS, several SEMs, Raman, FTIR, TGA, DSC, multiple GC-MS and a high resolution optical metallograph.
About The Role - You WillSeagate is seeking a high-energy, collaborative chemist or chemical engineering intern for a position at our facility in Longmont, Colorado. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a global team located in the US and Asia. The function of this role is to evaluate new and existing materials to ensure that we deliver the highest quality components and materials to our Customers. The chemist or chemical engineer will work with Product Design Engineering, our suppliers, product development teams, and factory personnel to validate component designs and materials are suitable for volume manufacturing and align with our long-term reliability targets.
A Day in the Life May Include:
- Perform laboratory testing to evaluate new materials and components to be used in the industry and qualify components manufactured by our Suppliers according to company standards.
- Conduct hands-on bench work to evaluate products and technology using local, industrial, national, and/or international standards and test methods.
- Assist with maintaining and calibrating laboratory instruments and equipment and implementing new testing techniques.

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field, and returning to classes in Fall 2024
