Job Summary

The Sustainability Engineer works closely across the organization to develop initiatives that meet the sustainability goals of the community, customers, and the organization. This role will partner with all manufacturing locations to implement sustainability programs and strategies, track progress and report status to leadership. They will use Anchor and glass industry sustainability achievements to market glass as sustainable and environmentally responsible packaging. This role will serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on sustainability.

MAIN POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Anchor’s sustainability program by partnering with Operations, Manufacturing and Senior Leadership to understand and achieve agreed upon objectives across targets such as water, energy, material and natural gas reductions.
  • Balance and align strategies with short- and long-term sustainability goals, assuring support of and alignment with company objectives.
  • Build strong relationships across the organization to monitor and support manufacturing site progress toward sustainability goals
  • Complete external reporting to EcoVadis, Climate Disclosure Project, SEDEX, UN Global Compact, and others, as designated internally or by our customers or communities in which we operate
  • Monitor and support customers’ evolving sourcing requirements relating to sustainability, working closely with Sales and Procurement to ensure alignment with customer requirements.
  • Regularly benchmark competitor and customer sustainability efforts to inform and evolve Anchor and division sustainability strategies.
  • Serve as sustainability expert for the company, acting as a resource and partner to all locations and areas within the organization.
  • Explore opportunities to improve sustainability performance through renewable energy, waste/energy reduction, etc.
  • Track key sustainability metrics such as energy usage, recycled content, waste diversion, etc. and report in monthly One Anchor EHS reviews
  • Complete annual Anchor Glass Sustainability Report and provide to internal and external stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYEE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, environmental, or sustainability-related field preferred. Other technical degrees or certificates may be considered in conjunction with individual experience and capability.
  • Experience level: 2+ years in related field preferred
  • Background in developing sustainability initiatives required
  • Experience in glass or packaging industry preferred
  • Strong project management skills, with experience implementing projects at multiple sites
  • Understand working processes of legislation at federal, state and local levels
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to present data to all levels of the organization
  • Travel required: 25-50%
